Re-Membering ourselves through Rites of Passage

Discover the heart and soul behind Inner Wilderness Adventures with Kate Hives a dedicated mother of two who brings over two decades of experience as a kayak wilderness guide and outdoor educator. With a Bachelor’s degree in Outdoor Recreation Parks and Tourism from Lakehead University and a Master’s in Environmental Practice from Royal Roads University, Kate has cultivated a deep understanding of nature’s transformative power and the importance of rites of passage.
Prior to embracing motherhood, Kate honed her skills as a kayak coach and Outward Bound instructor, guiding both adults and youth through Canadian West Coast waters and around the world. Having worked in Patagonia, Chile to Haida Gwaii, Canada to Angelsey, UK she has seen her fair share of rough days at sea and also knows calm meditative paddles intimately. Her journey is fueled by a passion for creating meaningful connections in the natural world, where she believes magic happens with just a touch of intention.
At Inner Wilderness Adventures, Kate offers enriching experiences rooted in ancestral skills and deep nature connection. Whether teaching fire lighting, weather forecasting, or kayaking, she fosters a community where families and individuals reconnect with the wild, finding inspiration from myth and metaphor found in nature’s embrace.
Join Kate on a journey to rediscover the wonders of the outdoors, where every moment spent together around the “central fire” together becomes a lesson in self-awareness, growth mindset, and community resilience. Embrace the call of the wild and uncover the transformative potential of the Inner Wilderness Adventures.
